Here I want to show you my bachelor thesis LEVIATHAN.

For this project, I wanted to combine
a lot of things I learned during my studying.
I chose to create a multisensory experience for people,
a physical exhibition with interactive elements.
I concentrated on visual, acoustic and haptic stimuli.

This project should tell a story to the visitor
but also reverse classical Human Computer Interaction,
since the person has to react to a signal of the computer.
The installation contained three projection panels, installation hoses
– which could be plugged together for interactions – and an arduino microcontroller.

For the beginning of the project I started to create
storyboards to explore the story I want to tell.
The story is about a giant creature in the sea,
which carries some sort of illness, which can be healed
or left alone by the visitor.

To vizualise this inbody experiment, I experimented with different
displacement maps to get a organic look. I wanted to go
for an abstract look, which should not digust the visitor
but make him or her get the idea. I also used motion to simulate a working organ.

To get a signal from interacting with the hoses, i used a magnetic switch.
This made it easier to plug two hoses together.
For the logic behind the interaction I used the communication between Unity and Arduino.

The panels are made of wood slats and shower curtains. Here are some impressions of the construction.

Of course testing was a very important part of the project.
The installation was visited on two days in the photography studio
of my university.

The documentation, psychologial aspects, feedback and results of the project
are written down in my bachelor thesis.

A big thanks to everyone who lend me a hand
with creating the installation and testing the procedure!
You all helped me fight my very own Leviathan.
