Meet Sanaa and her tribe.
I always loved strolling in the woods
and wanted to capture that feeling of tranquility
and mystery in this video. Nature sourrounds everyone of us every day,
so it should be the most understandable thing for us,
but still we can get lost in it and I think many people
can feel some strange kind of awe, when they are alone in the woods.

I recorded the footage in the woods near my hometown
in the south of germany. To capure a quite soft and mysterious light,
I waited early in the morning for the first sunbeams.
For the sound, I waited till noon and also went
into a livlier part of the forest, because I wanted my
setting to be full of life, so I tried
to record a lot of singing birds and flying insects.
I created the 3D character one semester before I started working on
the video. She is supposed to be a gentle but powerful
guardian of the forest.
The greatest source of inspiration for Sanaa were the amazing pictures
from Hans Silvester, which he took of the people in the Omo Valley.
In addition I rigged the 3D model, created a mask for her
to make her look stranger and some new paintings for her friends.
After that, I recreated the scene in Maya, so my characters
could vanish behind the trees, and of course started animating.
This project is my personal favorite, because it was
a great experience to spend a lot of time outside,
recording images and sounds and then coming back
and taking care about the character.
